A graduation announcement doesn’t have to come from a standard template. For this project, I created a custom two-sided graduation announcement designed to look and feel like a magazine.
The front was styled as a magazine cover, turning the graduate into the feature story, while the back provided the important graduation and celebration details in a coordinating design.
Making It Personal
The design was built around the graduate rather than a generic graduation theme. As a longtime band student preparing to attend Colorado State University to study music, music became the inspiration for the entire piece.
Photos, typography, headlines, and graphic elements worked together to create an announcement that reflected both where she had been and where she was headed next.
This same idea can be adapted for almost any style, personality, or event. From graduation announcements and birthday invitations to showers, reunions, and special events, the design can be created around the person and the occasion rather than forcing the occasion into a premade look.
Below is the finished magazine-inspired graduation announcement, including the front and back designs.
