High Plains Truck & Tractor Pull

Event Marketing & Print Design

Category: Graphic Design • Event Marketing • Print Advertising

Project Overview

The High Plains Truck & Tractor Pull is an annual Father’s Day weekend tradition hosted in partnership with the Northeastern Junior College (NJC) Young Farmers. Each year, I create the promotional materials that help bring the event to life while ensuring the design reflects the event’s personality and reaches the local community.

The Challenge

The event organizer is an experienced tractor mechanic whose focus is making the event successful—not designing marketing materials. He needed someone who could take a list of sponsors, classes, vendors, and event details and turn them into promotional pieces that were easy to read, visually appealing, and ready for multiple forms of advertising.

Because sponsor lists, vendors, and event information change every year, the materials must be updated annually while maintaining a recognizable style that attendees expect.

My Role

I serve as the primary creative contact for the event’s marketing materials. After receiving updated event information approximately two months before the event, I typically deliver an initial flyer within 24 hours.

Throughout the project, I also coordinate directly with the magazine publisher and electronic billboard provider to ensure each advertisement meets their required dimensions, file specifications, and print quality standards.

What I Created

  • Event Flyer
  • Magazine Advertisement
  • Electronic Billboard Graphic
  • Annual Design Updates

Skills Demonstrated

  • Event Marketing
  • Vendor Coordination
  • Client Communication
  • Project Management
  • Brand Consistency
  • Production File Preparation
  • Deadline Management

The Process

Every year begins with updated event information, sponsor lists, and any schedule changes. From there, I redesign the promotional materials while preserving the familiar look and feel of the event.

Once the artwork is approved, I work directly with each advertising vendor to ensure the correct file sizes, resolutions, and formats are delivered for both print and digital advertising. This allows the event organizer to focus on preparing for the pull while I manage the creative and production side of the project.

Project Highlights

  • Produced promotional materials on a short turnaround, often delivering the initial flyer within 24 hours.
  • Coordinated with multiple advertising vendors to ensure production requirements were met.
  • Updated the event branding each year while maintaining a consistent identity.
  • Designed materials that clearly communicate schedules, sponsors, vendors, and event details for a broad audience.

Thoughts from the Portfolio

One of my favorite parts of this project is building relationships with clients who have incredible knowledge in their field but don’t necessarily enjoy the marketing side of their business. By taking care of the design and coordinating with advertising vendors, I can simplify the process and allow them to focus on what they do best—putting on a great event.
